Welcome to

Gestalt Birmingham

Transforming unfinished business with support and relationship

Welcome to Gestalt Birmingham, where we offer Counselling, Psychotherapy, Supervision and Training in central Birmingham and Kings Heath, with a commitment to a highly professional and personal service. If you need support over stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, sexuality, bereavement, trauma or abuse – or any other life issues – we are here to help.

We are a partnership of experienced UKCP registered Gestalt counsellors and psychotherapists proud to work in the urban context of multicultural Birmingham with the diversity, difference and cultural issues this brings. We have many years of life and work experience between us and have seen the success that Gestalt therapy and counselling has achieved for the hundreds of clients we have seen between us across a wide range of settings. Gestalt therapy is powerful, effective and humane and we are passionate about its ability to bring about meaningful growth and change.

We have undertaken extensive training at leading institutes, have our practice overseen by senior colleagues and carry professional memberships and liability insurance. We are mature practitioners with skills in leadership, teaching and coaching, and with wide life experiences.

We also have a commitment to ongoing training in new ideas and developments in counselling and psychotherapy which we integrate into our existing practice to strengthen its power and efficacy.

Counselling & Psychotherapy

Gestalt therapy is first and foremost a humane, one-to-one relationship and not a collection of techniques and methods which are practised on a person or which have to be learnt and taken home to implement.

Change happens only in the present and Gestalt therapy prioritises the here and now, the current situation between therapist and client. Gestalt therapy works to support awareness, placing your experience, and truths at the centre of therapy rather than imposing one person’s reality onto the other. It is a creative and experimental holistic therapy, recognising the embodied nature of our lives and the inevitable influence of the situations, past and present, which form our thinking and experience. It is suitable for working with all types of difficulty including abuse, trauma, loss, anxiety and depression.

Clinical Supervision

We supervise practitioners from humanistic modalities including person-centred and integrative approaches as well as Gestalt. Our approach to supervision entails paying close attention both to core aspects of relevant theory, to the context in which the supervision occurs and to our experience with a supervisee.

We look to balance the supportive, educative and managerial aspects of supervision and to emphasise the aspect which most fits the circumstances. We pay attention to contracting and to building a supervisory alliance through open communication. We work with qualified practitioners and trainees from local Universities and offer both individual and group supervision.

Training and Workshops

We offer bespoke training to clinicians and have experience in authoring and delivering workshops to the University Sector and Voluntary Sector as well as at Professional Conferences.

We can provide training on specific aspects of therapy, team building days and guest faculty for training institutions.
